Mangotsfield: South Gloucestershire Parish on the Eastern Edge of Bristol
Mangotsfield is a suburban parish on the north-eastern fringe of Bristol, within the South Gloucestershire unitary authority. The population is around 10,000. The area was historically rural, with coal mining from the medieval period through to the mid-twentieth century. Mangotsfield station, on the Midland Railway's route from Bath to Birmingham, closed in 1966 under the Beeching cuts. The trackbed now forms part of the Bristol and Bath Railway Path, a 13-mile cycling and walking route that passes through the village and is one of the most popular traffic-free paths in the country.
St James's Church dates to the fifteenth century and sits on a hilltop that provides views across the surrounding area. Mangotsfield is close to the M4 and M32 motorways, making it a practical commuter location for Bristol, which is about five miles to the south-west.
