Chipping Sodbury is a small market town in South Gloucestershire, about twelve miles north-east of Bristol. The "Chipping" prefix comes from the Old English ceapan, meaning to trade or market. The town received its market charter in 1227, and the unusually wide High Street reflects its medieval function as a market place. The population is around 5,500. J.K.
