Littlehampton sits at the mouth of the River Arun on the West Sussex coast. The harbour was active in shipbuilding and coastal trade through the nineteenth century. Body's boatyard, one of the oldest in the country, operated until the 1980s. The East Beach Cafe, a striking piece of contemporary architecture designed by Thomas Heatherwick, opened in 2007. The Long Bench on the seafront, at 324 metres, held the record for the longest bench in Britain. The population is around 30,000. Littlehampton is part of the Arun district.
Littlehampton station provides Southern services to London Victoria via Worthing and Brighton. The A259 coast road connects to Worthing (seven miles east) and Bognor Regis (eight miles west).
