Oadby is a town on the southern edge of Leicester in the borough of Oadby and Wigston, Leicestershire. The population is around 24,000. The University of Leicester's Botanic Garden, formerly the Harold Martin Botanic Garden, is located here on Stoughton Drive South, with 16 acres of themed gardens. Oadby Racecourse (Leicester Racecourse) hosts flat and National Hunt meetings and is one of the few remaining urban racecourses in England. The town has a suburban residential character but retains its own identity separate from Leicester, with a distinct centre along The Parade.
Leicester city centre is about three miles to the north, easily reached by bus or car along the A6 London Road. The nearest railway station is Leicester, about 10 minutes away by car. The town has a significant South Asian community, reflected in the shops and restaurants along The Parade.
