Hayes was an industrial town. The EMI factory pressed records here from 1907 to 2011, producing everything from the Beatles to Iron Maiden. The His Master's Voice (HMV) trademark originated at the Hayes factory. Nestl had a major presence. The Heinz factory produced baked beans here until 2000. Most of the industrial sites have been redeveloped for housing, particularly around the Old Vinyl Factory on Blyth Road. The population of the Hayes area is around 70,000. Hayes is in the London Borough of Hillingdon.
Hayes and Harlington station provides Elizabeth line and Great Western Railway services. Heathrow Airport is three miles south. The A312 connects to the M4.
