Stourbridge has been associated with glass since the early seventeenth century, when Huguenot glassmakers settled in the area. The Stourbridge glass industry produced everything from window glass to fine crystal. Stuart Crystal and Webb Corbett were major employers into the late twentieth century. The Stourbridge Lion, built here in 1829, was the first commercial steam locomotive to run in the United States. The population is around 63,000.
