New Quay itself — a small harbour town with colourful houses stacked above the quay — is widely believed to have inspired Dylan Thomas's Llareggub in Under Milk Wood. Ceredigion is among the strongest Welsh-speaking areas in Wales, with the language functioning as the natural medium of everyday life in many communities.
