Coity is a village on the northeastern fringe of Bridgend in South Wales, within the Bridgend County Borough. The population is around 6,000 for the wider Coity Higher community. The village is defined by Coity Castle, a Norman fortification begun in the late 11th century by Payn de Turberville. The ruins, managed by Cadw, include a substantial keep, curtain walls, and a later round tower. It saw action during the revolt of Owain Glyndwr in the early 1400s. The village itself is small but growing, with new housing developments extending northward along the Coity Road. St Mary's Church, beside the castle, dates to the 14th century.
Coity is essentially a suburb of Bridgend now, separated by only a few hundred metres of road. Bridgend town centre, with its Bridgend Designer Outlet and the Ravens brewery, is less than two miles to the southwest. The A4061 runs north through Coity toward the Ogmore and Garw valleys. The M4 junction 35 is close, putting Cardiff about 20 miles to the east and Swansea roughly the same to the west. Bridgend railway station is on the South Wales Main Line. For those interested in adult companionship in the Bridgend area, Coity's proximity to the M4 and Bridgend station provides connections to Cardiff, Swansea, and the wider South Wales corridor.
